Wine Advocate Review The 2002 Syrah Saralees Vineyard, which includes 3% Viognier in the blend, is one of the greatest Syrahs Arrowood has produced. Dick Arrowood has always been ahead of the educational curve with northern California Syrah, and this is a fabulous effort. Inky/purple-colored, with a glorious perfume of lilacs intermixed with blackberries, melted asphalt, and notions of bacon, smoke, and toast, this rich, opulent, voluptuously-textured Syrah exhibits great ripeness, purity, and richness as well as a layered, multidimensional finish. It should last and evolve for a decade. Drink 2003 - 2015.
Wine Tasting Notes Distinctive and dramatic, this is a showcase wine. In the nose, concentrated aromas of plum, blackberry and licorice mix with a perfume of lychee nuts. Dense, ripe fruit, chocolate and roasted coffee bean flavors give the wine a captivating sweetness on the palate, reminiscent of a perfectly prepared cappuccino. With its formidable structure, chewy tannins and surprising depth, this wine integrates the essence, or terroir, of Saralee's Vineyard with the true varietal character of the fruit. It is a classic example of Syrahs beauty sweetly perfumed, voluptuously textured, and charmingly persistent.
