A superb wine, fresh and ripe, with a characteristic edge of caramel, opulence and bone-dry acidity. This comes from a great vineyard in a great Loire year, so it's no surprise that, like many great Loire Chenin Blanc, it promises lengthy aging - 15-20 years if you can wait. In the meantime, now it has youthful vigor and freshness.

Domaine des Baumard produces some of the finest examples of Savennieres, including the single-vineyard "Clos du Papillon" from a site along the Loire notable for the presence of soapstone in its slate soils. Jean Baumard and now his son, Florent, are universally regarded as the finest winemakers in the appellation. Their wines are among the most unique and rewarding in the world: honeyed, dry whites of unmatched concentration, perfume, and longevity. The combination of this concentration with the naturally high acidity of the Chenin Blanc grape results in wines capable of lasting and improving for decades.
