Product DescriptionVinoUS Media Review
A wine of incredible density, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is virtually impenetrable, but dazzling just the same. Rose petal, mint, sage, rosemary, leather and smoke hit the palate in a voluptuous, racy Rancia. The 2012 should drink well earlier than many other recent vintages, but it should also age nicely. The fine, silky tannins are a bit uncharacteristic for a young Rancia. Over the last few years, the 2012 has really started to come together. It will be interesting to see where things go from here. Wine Advocate Review
From the 6.25-hectare Rancia vineyard, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia shows a more elaborate and stylized personality with ripe fruit tones, bursting cherry, perfumed violets and rose petal. Those floral notes add a feminine touch to what is in fact a wine of power and determination. It shows a beautiful evolution in the glass as well, with dusty mineral notes that add to the overall elegance of the dry, polished finish. This is one of the best Riservas of 2012.
James Suckling Review
A red with beautiful depth of fruit. Lots of chocolate, blackberry and nutty character. Full and juicy. So delicious now. Will age beautifully. One of the classic Chianti Classico riservas. This is a beauty. Drink or hold..
Wine Spectator Review
Dusty tannins keep a tight grip on the cherry, tobacco and earth notes in this rich red. Offers flashes of ripe fruit early before turning lean and firm. Be patient or match with food for now. Shows a more rustic side of Rancia. Best from 2018 through 2030.
Wine Tasting Notes
Ruby red appearance with rich, intense tones. Spicy nose with floral notes and hints of wild berry (red and black), accompanied by mineral impressions and light toasted notes. Spice re-appears on the palate, which displays firm but supple tannins, and the finale is vigorous and taut. Overall, the wine is compelling for its flavor-rich mid-palate and supporting acidity.
