Having tried the Pale Rail and the Black Hops concentrates, the Pat's carbonator provided beer-ish liquid. Both are better than no beer and far lighter but there's a syrupy, almost saccharine taste to them akin to Diet sodas. I had returned to hauling cans into the backcountry.
The American Logger--ordered for a multiple person, long trip--was a shocker. Given sufficiently cold water (glacial runoff and a rest in the snow work nicely) it's very tasty beer. Light, with a malty flavor and enough hop to crisp it up, it's replaced my cans!
Honestly, I won't be getting any more of the other flavors and this has a dedicated spot in my pack.

I ordered the "logger" because the pale rail was not in stock. I will not order again. So far the pale rail is the only flavor that adequately approximates a drinkable beer. I so badly want to like Pat's Backcountry system, but it's just so much easier to take a flask of whiskey and save on weight and waste.
