Dutton-GoldfieldAfter working closely together as winemaker
and grape grower since 1990, Steve Dutton and Dan Goldfield merged
their talents to create Dutton-Goldfield Winery in 1998. You hear it often, "Wine is made in the vineyard." The character in the glass originates with the right vine in the right place, tended to properly. The Russian River Valley has assets that make it unique, both above the ground and below. The daily interplay between marine air, coastal hills, and warmer protected valleys makes this appellation perfect for cool climate grapes. Warren Dutton, Steve's father, foresaw the super-premium potential of this area, and first planted grapes in 1964. Dutton Ranch, which is now comprised of over 60 small, unique vineyard sites throughout the area, has a wide reputation for leadership in viticulture in this area. They were also among the first to champion Pinot Noir in a region where, less than a decade ago, most of the fruit went exclusively for sparkling wine. Always in search of opportunities to push the limits, the newest Dutton plantings are in the spectacular Freestone and Occidental areas. |
