Sebastiani VineyardsAt Sebastiani, we search Sonoma County far and wide to locate grape growers that observe the same viticultural methodologies and practices as we implement in our own vineyards. Canopy management, vine nutrition, natural pest control versus chemical control, clonal selection, rootstock selection and deficit irrigation are all vital components in growing high quality grapes. Many of our most prized vineyard blocks are from "Old Vines" that are 30-110 years old, tended by the second, third and even fourth generations of the original owners. Every classic grape variety grows in Sonoma County, but each has "favorite places," sub-appellations within the county where the climate, soils, elevation, exposure and vineyard practices are ideal for that variety. Through nearly 100 years of grape growing and winemaking in Sonoma County, Sebastiani has found these perfect grape-to-site matches and showcases them in Single Vineyard Selection Wines and Proprietary Wines.
Single vineyards and ranches can produce wine
lots so distinctive, concentrated and/or consistently superior that
they warrant separate bottlings. Fruit from specific sites such as
Dutton Ranch in Russian River Valley and Madrone Ranch in Sonoma
Valley stands out due to meticulous care in the vineyards, expert
matching of clones and rootstocks to soils and climate, and the
grower's commitment to quality. The varietal character and flavor
concentration found in the wines made from these sites are enhanced
by the use of selected yeasts, appropriate oak cooperage and
fining/filtration choices.
