Elegant, rich blackberry, black currant and dark chocolate mingle with a hint of sweet tobacco on the nose. The black fruits open with silky dark plum notes developing into a soft cocoa finish. Cassis and sage are present underneath the brambly, slightly smokey presence of Alicante Bouschet whose red skin flesh imparts the beautiful dark amethyst cast. The near perfect conditions in 2014 created a wine with significant structure and softer tannins.
This intoxicating wine would enhance a meal of herbed roasted rack of lamb, rich potatoes au gratin and a starter of duck (or chicken) liver pate.
